About Gerald Frankel

Gerald S. Frankel is Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University and director of the Fontana Corrosion Center. His work spans the mechanisms of localized corrosion — pitting, passivity, and the breakdown of the thin oxide films that stand between metal and its environment — along with corrosion of steel in concrete and the long-term durability of infrastructure.
